LA Underground Originator Kent Jamz Shares New Single

Today, Kent Jamz slides through with “renegade”, which is the latest drop from his upcoming EP releasing this fall. Produced by Jarius “J. Mo” Mozee and K. Roosevelt, “renegade” speaks on the uniting themes of unity, support, and love. Lyrics like ”I know you’ll kill for me / You know I’d die for you” cement the point as Kent paints a picture of a Bonnie & Clyde-type love affair.

When asked about the intensity of the song, Kent explained, “I wanted to write about how I wanted to be loved. ‘renegade’ represents a person loving me, standing up for my character, and investing in my growth. No matter what mistakes I’ve made.”

The single was also the first song Kent penned after spending a life-changing sixty days in a drug rehabilitation center. Kent says, “I finally found a sense of peace, and after I left rehab in Ojai, I went to the studio! The first song I recorded was ‘renegade’. I knew that people’s perception of me was most likely not accurate, and when I thought about finally loving myself, I knew this was the type of love I wanted and deserved.”

Renegade’s visualizer aligns everything in the song with dope cinematography and storytelling. In the video, Kent Jamz and his “renegade queen” are seen tucked away in a secluded setting, working on everything from fitness goals to frantic escapes together. Despite its lack of dialogue, there’s no mistaking the energy being translated: this is a true ride or die situation.

As the frontman of OverDoz., the influential South Central-bred collective that helped shape LA’s underground scene during the SoundCloud era, Kent was instrumental in the group’s constant evolution. With co-signs from Hip Hop heavyweights like Pharrell, Nipsey Hussle, Kendrick Lamar, and Childish Gambino, he played a key role in expanding the group’s unique brand of progressive Hip Hop into new and unexpected directions.

A powerful new chapter, the forthcoming EP is a deeply personal, soul-searching project that marks a significant evolution of Kent’s artistry, ruminating on themes of self-discovery, love, and personal growth. A body of work that showcases authentic vulnerability through live instrumentation, lo-fi textures and soulful vocals, the moment is bigger than a project. It’s purpose.

“The biggest compliment is when someone tells me my music helped them,” Kent reflects. “If it helps you, maybe you’ll pay it forward.”
