Seddy Hendrinx on New Project & Bringing Back Real Music

Seddy Hendrinx recently rolled through for the latest installment in our 2020 interview series. As one of Jacksonville, Florida's most promising rapper/singers, Seddy exercises raw emotion in each verse and every hook. His first release, an unofficial remix of Bryson Tiller’s “Remember,” caught fire on Soundcloud and he's been on a roll since. Seddy Hendrinx dropped 'The Roots' mixtape in 2017 followed by the 'Just Cause' EP and 2018’s 'Death B4 Dishonor: Loyalty Over Everything'.

Joining forces with Florida Boy Entertainment, Generation Now, and Atlantic Records, he made mainstream waves on the 2019 single “LOWKEY.” Over a sultry throwback R&B beat, he slides from airy freestyled verses into a slick secretive admission. Most importantly, the track set the stage for Roots 2 and a lot more “street soulful real deal pain music” from Seddy. He recently released a new EP, 'Black Hearted Demon', which charted in the top 100 Rap Albums on Apple Music, and features production from Don Cannon, Cheeze Beatz, M16 and more. Learn more of his story here and then press play on 'Black Hearted Demon' for more dope vibes. Only on Hype Off Life 👊🏾

Thanks for coming through. So you're from Jacksonville, FL. It’s home to a lot of dope upcoming artists. What do you like most about the music scene out there?

The music scene out there is real competitive and different in my city. I love it.

What makes it different?

Well, a lot of stuff happens in Florida and everybody kinda skips over Florida so it makes it different because of the fact that we have more substance than “shoot em up bang bang”, it’s more of a soulful gangster music.

Yeah, I can tell by your music. So as a singer, what are some of your favorite R&B albums?

My favorite R&B albums would be “Miseducation,” “Epiphany” by T-Pain… “Rhythm and Gangsta: The Masterpiece” by Snoop Dogg (2003), that’s a good one

You rap too. What’s your favorite Hip Hop album?

I’d have to say that it’ll probably be Kendrick Lamar’s “good kid, m.A.A.d city”

That’s another good one. I also heard you’re an Erykah Badu fan. How did you feel about her Verzuz battle with Jill Scott?

I feel like Erykah won… that’s a good one right there. She is just more peaceful to me. I grew up on her because of my mama. She reminded me a lot of my mama.

So, you have a song called “Lowkey.” It has almost 3 million views in 5 months. How did you know you had a hit on your hands?

I knew I had a hit on my hands when I first heard the beat. I heard it and I was like “This finna be a hit.” Almost at 3 million views in less than 5 months, that’s crazy, that’s great. But I knew it was a hit as soon as I heard the beat. I said it, I called it out loud. It could sometimes take about a year for a song to get a plaque, so I’m just waiting.

I love the sample. That’s the song that really made me fall in love with music. Who produced the beat?

Hype Williams from Jacksonville, Florida.

You have a new project coming out on soon. What can we expect to hear from it?

Y’all can expect to hear soulful, reality street music.

Is there anything else we should know before you go?

S: Nah. Everything else gonna be in store. I just want everybody to relax, chill, actually be able to listen to some music and turn up. I got one turnt up song just to fit with the generation, but I’m tryna bring back real music, real substance, real sound without being boring and sad all the time.
