Veteran Emcee J. Sands Releases New Album ft. Sadat X, MC Eiht & More
Hip Hop was blessed with some dope releases this fall from OG emcees like, LL Cool J and MC Lyte, whose albums are providing substance to an often materialistic world. Today, add veteran emcee/producer and Pittsburgh native J. Sands in the mix with his new album,, “Cash Flow, Buddha & Shelter” via B.U.K.A. Entertainment.
Coming with 12 tracks of 90s nostalgia, the project features poignant bars from fellow seasoned emcees like, Chief Rocker Busy Bee, Sadat X of Brand Nubian, MC Eiht, Masta Ace, eLZhi, Skyzoo, and others.
When asked about the album’s sonic aesthetic, J. Sands stated, “Sonically, it may sound a little different because of the software, the production programs we're using today don't sound like the grimy ‘94/’95 records, but that was what I was looking for,” he says. “I was looking for beats I would hear from Common or beats I would hear from AZ or Nas, or anybody who was doing it in ‘90s.”
In case you’re wondering, the project’s title draws inspiration from a line in Nas's iconic "New York State of Mind”. "That line from Nas’s ‘Illmatic’ album just hit me,” Sands says. “If it ain't about cash, some good smoke, or improving my crib, I ain't got time for it." Facts indeed.
