Dough The Fresh Kid Triumphs As a Black Man in America on ‘Tal’s Cafe’

With everything going on in the world, we're in need of leaders and artists that not only make good music but do so with substance. As if perfect timing, Dough The Fresh Kid has got us all covered on his upcoming, highly-anticipated album, ‘Tal’s Cafe'. Telling a story of triumphing over systemic racism, poverty, and other generational curses through an enterprising spirit, 'Tal's Cafe' touches on real-life situations and lies like The American Dream and Horatio Alger Myth that aren't always applicable to American minorities.

If you're unfamiliar with Dough The Fresh Kid (which you shouldn't), his discography is an admirable one, offering a mix of street stories and social consciousness over hella sick beats. 'Tal's Cafe' picks up where past releases like 'Arlington Avenue: The Roaring Sixties’ and ‘Black Rome’ left off, cinematically painting scenes with a killer score. From the beat selection to his choice of words, Dough The Fresh Kid's gift for creating cohesive, relevant, and free-flowing projects is as evident as ever.

'Tal's Cafe' is like the soundtrack to a movie, where the movie is the album and the script is life. As an 80s baby that has lived through the crack era, '92 riots and so many other heavy circumstances that would break a normal man, DTFK tells his story through witty wordplay and classic samples, that’ll take you back to the 80s and early 90s when things were real heavy. If you grew up in South Central, you know what it is.

From the sample-heavy intro down to the gospel-tinged last track, “Prolific Hussle", Tal’s Cafe will undoubtedly spark some minds, as well as motivate the masses to do better, be better and put on for their team. Considering systemic racism and on-going inequalities faced by Black Americans, you can’t even get mad at anybody for getting it, hustling, getting theirs by any means necessary, because let's face it: poverty is hell and rich is gangsta.

If ‘Tal’s Cafe’ isn’t the soundtrack for South Central, I don’t know what is! Dough The Fresh Kid's music is highly digestible, packing a punch of knowledge that needs to be brought to our attention. He doesn’t dumb it down or be anything less than himself. In all honesty, 'Tal's Cafe' is DTFK's greatest project to date. But, as we all know, art is subjective. So, let us know what it means to you June 10th.
