We’ve been seeing you make moves all around town, in and out of state. How’s everything been going since you last released ‘Arlington Avenue: The Roaring Sixties?'
Definitely been connecting with other up and coming talented artist all throughout the states. Next I'll be hitting different countries to globalize the brand. 'Arlington Avenue' received great reviews and my fan base has grown significantly due to that project. Nothing much changed as far as my independent status. Haven't signed to a major label or no partnership at this moment but we're still pushing the brand the Every Penny Count way.
Word on the street is you’re dropping a new album soon. What was the creative process behind that?
Most definitely dropping a new album/project. I started working on the project in the beginning of the year. Connecting with new up and coming producers who had the sound I love before I started any of the writing process. After that, I had to think about the direction I was headed. So I headed to New York City the Mecca of Hip Hop and recorded the Album in Quad studios where 2 PAC was shot and where Notorious Big recorded to feel the spiritual connection. So it was lots of days of me creating hooks in the airport, composing verses on the plane while flying back and fourth from California to New York. Also, my music is based on actual life events. So I write through my experiences therefore it takes time to create the album.
Your previous projects have inspired many and given them motivation to go get this money. What’s your goal with this one?
Elevating the game of education to our people. I consider my genre Street/Conscious so I speak for the streets but also to wake up our lost soldiers on the streets consciously. In addition, I'll continue to tell stories of my history growing up in South Central Los Angeles to connect more with my supporters/fans so they'll continue to understand who DTFK is as an artist.
By the way, what’s the name of the album and when will it drop?
I want you to understand that this is the first time I went public with the title of my album. I've been building the anticipation but I have respect for Hype Off Life and ya'll have shown me nothing but love so I must pay homage. The title of my new album is 'Black Rome' and we don't have an official date but targeting October in the 4th quarter.
Anything else we should know before you go?
Just expect a independent tour from me this year. We're setting up At least 20 cities. And after this project, I'll be dropping another one Summer '19.
