Cam Archer & Oh Gosh Leotus Are Making Their Names Known On 'No Apologies' (Album Review)

This album is wonderful. Cam’s wordplay translates incredibly well over Leotus’ instrumentals. The intro is a smooth declaration of Archer’s ascension and work ethic, his breakout is just around the corner. Although the world is doing it’s best to continue living during the current crisis, Cam has taken every opportunity in terms of social media challenges to show off his impressive skills. The album is more than just good verses and beats. The album seems to follow a theme of relationships and Cam’s need to be understood. Songs like “Tonight” and “Phonegames” chronicle the ‘choose your own adventure’ journey of social media relationships. Cam sounds experienced in this field, fully aware of his past failings yet confident enough to know what he offers in said relationship.

The album title, “No Apologies” elicits ideas of self-awareness. Cam sounds mature in his skin and that bleeds over into his music creation. He’s confident in rapping/singing ranges outside of his norm and stacks lines on top of each other like a scaffolder. “Leisure” is one of my favorites tracks for no other reason than the mood it puts me in. This song sounds like sleeping in jeans in the summer. “Clean Air” is a charcuterie of great raps and nostalgia-inducing beats featuring Phantom Thrett. Oh Gosh Leotus shines throughout the album as well. The instrumentals provided by the veteran producer is just as big a star as Cam is. Producing the entire album, it flows like a river without polluting the water.

As the project ends, Cam catalogs his recent ascension and his growing paranoia. His lyrics cartwheeling over the hypotonic beat and throbbing bassline. Cam has planted his flag in the ground as an artist not miss or pass on.
