This week we caught up with Grammy-Nominated producer, YNG Josh. You might know his work from "Keys 2 The City 2" off Nipsey Hussle's Victory Lap or his work with YNW Melly on 'Melly vs. Melvin', where he produced 3 tracks: Billboards, I Ain’t Lying, and Adam Sandler.

Early in Josh’s career, he played drums in the church and around the city of Houston, introducing him to make beats that would allow him to then start working with Grammy-Nominated producer and musician Teeflii, which ultimately led to his collaboration with Nipsey Hussle. Working with Nipsey Hussle was a groundbreaking moment for Josh that opened numerous doors for him, like the opportunity to work with YNW Melly and other dope acts.

YNG Josh continues to elevate his brand by staying dedicated to the hustle and grinding hard with a passion, never letting anyone or anything distract him from the race. Currently, he is also working to create a new sound for the Number #1 rap group in Japan, Yurufuwa Gang.

Catch up with YNG Josh below, as he gets more into his background, advice Nipsey Hussle gave during their time together and how he plans to continue running this Marathon. Because life's not a sprint!

How did growing up in the church influence the sound of your music?

It connected me more to music on a deeper level.

Working with Nipsey Hussle on “Keys 2 The City 2” was a groundbreaking moment for you. What is the best piece of advice he gave during your time together?

“Fall in love with the process”....”Put a realistic goal in front of you and stretch to accomplish it.”....and lastly “ALWAYS remember it’s a marathon, don’t get distracted by the sprinters.”

TeeFlii also opened some doors for you. How did you guys meet?

We met through one of my big bro’s by the name of Big Flii Styles. We have been rocking ever since!

Connections play a key part in any field you find yourself in, as well as life in general. Do you have any networking tips for those looking to build solid relationships in the industry?

Never be afraid to take that leap of faith, always be humble, be blind to the word no. Find a door...open the door...then step through the door.

Right now you’re working hard on creating a new sound for the #1 rap group in Japan, Yurufuwa Gang. When will we get to hear it?

Soon....real soon! They’re working on getting their American deal from a major label.

Aside from your work in the international scene, are you working with any local artists in the States?

A lot of them. Very talented and local artist from Houston, Atlanta, LA and New York.

Hard work, mixed with passion and playing it smart have been major keys to your success. How do you plan on continuing The Marathon?

By reading, learning, studying, observing, evaluating, and taking risks and reaching out.
