Yestrdy Honors August 08 with “Blue Cadillac”
“Blue Cadillac” marks Yestrdy’s first fully self-produced record and the only song to feature both artists voices together
Emerging artist, Yestrdy just released “Blue Cadillac”, a deeply personal single and tribute to his longtime friend and collaborator, Ray “August 08” Jacobs, who passed away in 2023.
The single marks the first and only time the two artists’ voices appear together on the same track, a moment close to 20 years in the making.
“This song means everything to me,” says Yestrdy. “August and I came up together in the L.A. music scene, writing records, touring, and building our careers side by side. We’d worked on dozens of songs behind the scenes, but this is the first track where we’re both on the mic at the same time — and it ended up being the last one we made together.”
“Blue Cadillac” also represents a major milestone for Yestrdy as his first fully self-produced and arranged song. Guitarist Jason Masoud joined Yestrdy in the studio to help lay down what he calls the “festival feel” of the record, with every layer of sound hand-picked and shaped by Yestrdy.
“When I first wrote it, it was meant for August’s next album,” Yestrdy explains. “But in classic August fashion, he flipped the script and told me, ‘You need to keep this for yourself… but let me add to it.’ I’m so glad I listened. Every detail of this song — from the percussion to the mix — was a labor of love.”
Originally planned for release on August 8th in honor of his late friend, “Blue Cadillac” officially dropped September 9th, which also happens to be Yestrdy’s birthday, making its release even more personal.
