Meet the Champions of VIBES Music Game

Earlier this year, VIBES: The Game For Music Minds kicked off their national DJ tournament. With the COVID-19 pandemic causing a decline on many aspects of entertainment, VIBES stayed persistent and developed a following with their Instagram Live events. For their latest season of the tournament, DJ Wildstyle emerged as the champion.

We recently got a chance to speak with DJ Wildstyle, and DJ Züm and DJ Honey who were winners of previously held tournaments, and we learnt a few things that will surely spark your interest. For DJ Honey, she emerged as the winner of the Washington DC leg of the tournament series held last year, and throughout the interview she shared what it's like to thrive in a male dominated industry. Züm The DJ, who was crowned the winner of the Los Angeles leg of the tournament in 2018, shared not only her experiences throughout the tournament, but shared some benefits as her DJing skills were requested by singer Brent Faiyaz. For the tournament's champion DJ WILDSTYLE, we got familiar with the Texas based DJ's Army background as he shared his experiences DJing for the military, and he recalls his experiences during the tournament. Keep scrolling to check out the full interviews with the three finalists!

The music doesn't stop for VIBES: The Game For Music Minds however as they gear up for their upcoming New York live championship battle. The battle will find DJs Mixstahype, Diddyy, and Midnightnvs competing for the crown, bragging rights, and approval from the audience. Stay up to date with VIBES on Instagram at @VibesMusicGame for future updates. Check out the interviews below.

Züm The DJ

When did you know you wanted to become a DJ?

I had moved to New York to pursue modeling and had a job as a waitress on the side. Once I started working as a waitress I saw that there was a DJ that would come in every Friday. I asked The DJ (Jon-Luc), where is your guys' equipment from and he told me that I should come over for a scratch session to see if I really wanted to DJ and spend money on equipment. I went over there and he was blown away he wanted me to DJ his party which was that weekend in SoHo. Once I did that party the rest is history.

Who are some of your favorite DJs, past and present?

My favorite DJs have to include Jazzy Jeff, DJ 2Nasty, and AM

What lead to you becoming Brent Faiyaz’s Tour DJ?

Two years ago I was contacted through Twitter from someone I didn’t know and they informed me that Brent’s manager Ty was looking for a DJ. I reached out and it was for the supporting artist on their European tour. The artist ended up going with a friend. When I decided to drive from Virginia to LA to DJ fulltime, they were intrigued by my determination to drive alone across the country. He then booked me for Brent’s Sonders Son Afterparty in LA. From that point on, I DJed almost every event for Brent. Although technically I’m not his tour DJ, I do DJ all of his events and shows in LA. Due to COVID I won’t know what it would’ve been like to be his tour DJ but we will see what is in store for 2021.

What do you love most about being on the road?

I love seeing the different people in different cities. The energy is different everywhere you go, and as a DJ I can feel everything and relay it back to them.

What does winning the VIBES Game Show mean to you?

I still feel like no one can beat me because transitions, song selection, and crowd control are my strengths. VIBES is a dope way to showcase your talents. It’s brought some competition my way, but I remain victorious #shej
