Travis Scott’s “Pick Up The Phone” Gets Unwrapped
Travis Scott’s double platinum single, "Pick Up The Phone" has been Unwrapped. To relaunch Hidden Beach Recordings' groundbreaking series featuring hip-hop jazz versions of smash rap, R&B, and hip-hop songs, the double platinum single from the Houston rapper-singer has been redone by musicians Ivan Dupee (piano, keyboards, producer, arranger), James Perkins (saxophone), and Richard Patterson (bass), as well as vocalist Taylor Mallory.
The Unwrapped version of Travis Scott’s “Pick Up The Phone” has already been added to the “New Jazz Now” playlist on Pandora and features exclusive art designed by Ron Bass (Beyonce, JAY-Z, Ellen DeGeneres). “When I first heard of the project and listened to some of it, it felt like a childhood memory,” says Ron Bass, whose father was a jazz enthusiast. “When I got approached to work with the project, it felt like home. It was a no-brainer to be able to take what I inherited with my art and to infuse it into something that was embedded into me as a child. It felt natural. Being a fan of both rap and jazz, I felt like it was a perfect symmetry for my art.”
The Unwrapped version of Travis Scott’s “Pick Up The Phone” is the first release from Hidden Beach Recordings Presents: Unwrapped Vol. 8: The Chicago Sessions, which is scheduled to arrive May 2019. Selections from first seven volumes of Unwrapped have been streamed millions of times and include addictive reimaginings of such classic rap tracks as A Tribe Called Quest’s “Bonita Applebum,” 50 Cent’s “21 Questions,” and DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s “Summertime.” So, def check them out too. But not before "Pick Up The Phone" below 😉
