7 Questions with Teenear

Aside from her new single "Need Your Love" being picked up by prominent playlists like Spotify's "The Newness" and Apple Music's "Me and Bae 😍," plus earning a coveted Vibe magazine premiere, Miami songstress Teenear has been on the bubble for awhile now. In case you didn't know!Stepping on the scene in 2015, the Slip-N-Slide artist's debut single "Friday Night," featured Sage the Gemini and ultimately went on to rack up over 4 million streams. “Friday Night” went global when Japanese dancer Kahonna used the song for a choreography video. And just to show she's no fluke, Teenear's follow-up single, “Streetlights” received a dancehall inspired remix featuring rap OG, Trina in 2016.With fans dubbed “Teebirds” and more music on the way, including a duet with Austin Mahone, Teenear is definitely an artist you want to keep on your radar. According to Slip-N-Slide Records CEO, Ted Lucas“I think she’s what the new generation is looking for. She is young, talented, with a drive to be successful." So, get familiar with the future of R&B aka Teenear below in this exclusive Hype Off Life interview!

How did growing up in Miami shape your musical taste?

Honestly Miami is such an artistic place in itself and I feel like the fact that I'm around beautiful art and artist all the time. It just motivates me and encourages me to work on my art.

Flashback 10 years ago. Who could we find in your Top 25 Most Played playlist?

Chris Brown, back then I was a huge fan of his and still am till this day! Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Aaliyah, Leona Lewis ... I'm sure there's much more but those were my top picks for sure.

Aside from being fun to sing, what do you like the most about R&B?

I just feel like R&B has so much emotion to it and there's really no limitation on how you can express yourself in it.

Growing up, which 3 albums had the most impact on your perspective?

  • The Beatles: Abby Road
  • Whitney Houston. This one is hard but, it would be a tie between "Whitney" or "Whitney Houston"
  • "Britney" by Britney Spears. Her concert was the first concert I had ever went to

When was that exact moment you knew you want to be a singer?

To be honest it was when I saw that Justin Bieber was hosting a contest on like writing to one of his beats and i literally sat there all night writing to it and I just fellin love with everything he was doing. I told myself this needs to be my life. And from that night forward I was constantly just trying to build my confidence in music. Istarted posting covers on YouTube, singing at church and yeah the love just grew.

Where do you see yourself and your career 5 years from now?

Five years from now I see myself have already won AT LEAST 2 Grammys, had the opportunity to be in a few movies and starting my second headline tour

In your opinion, why is it important as an artist to connect with your fans and show that you’re human too?

Honestly I think it's super important to connect with your supporters because if you don't have them where would you be? The people that support you are the reasonyou become whoever you're trying to become so I really just feel like I owe them so much more than just putting out music. My other point would be that when you really connect with your fans and show them that you're human they will always have your back, understand you if anything happens, etc. When someone else who doesn't support you tries to come at you for something that is totally normal, the love from your fans will help because they will hold you down no matter what.
