SIDMFKID: '13 Days Of Snow' (Album)

There are thousands of independent artists fighting for their chance to showcase their talent to the world. In today’s constantly changing music industry, the deficit between independent artists and large labels is only growing. '13 Days of Snow' is a narrative of the struggle one faces to accomplish their goals as an established musician in the face of adverse barriers to entry within the industry. The number 13 is synonymously known as the unluckiest number of all and represents exactly this throughout the project. Independent artists are dwarfed by the overwhelming support that huge outlets are able to provide and this phenomena can instantly lead to a career ridden with “unlucky” days. '13 Days of Snow' manifests the undying effort it takes to reach the top as SIDMFKID turns nothing into something never once conceived.Originating in Indianapolis, a city severely discredited despite a plethora of artists stemming from a diverse range of musical artistry, “The Snow” is a metaphorical representation of an unfavorable environment. In the song “Go Down” Sid alludes to his personal experience of being “...stuck in the snow…” which he portrays in an unorthodox yet sentimental fashion. “The Snow” is a theme that intertwines itself not only throughout Indianapolis, but also the city of Denver. In 2016 Sid moved to the Mile High City without any sense of affirmation that he would establish a local audience, let alone the nationwide platform that he has accumulated. Within two years SIDMFKID procured the “Best Upcoming Artist” Award from 303Magazine. Indianapolis and Denver are two cities recognized for the unpredictable climate, most notably the inevitable presence of “Snow.” Similar to “The Snow,” the recurring notion of deception is perpetuated through references to betrayal. SIDMFKID captures this emotion in the song “Take It Back” as he exclaims “God, you got some explaining to do, I know you heard me praying to you, I was proclaiming to you, why’s my life so hard right now? God I thought you was gon’ hold me down! I feel like you don’t care and you ignore me now.”With a strong sense of creative direction, he also set out to embody these themes in the most versatile way possible. Every track on this album is different in its own rite. Songs such as “Imma Kill Somebody” and “Spiders” abrasively tackle these issues, while “Caramel” and “Soundcloud Rapper” delicately portray the thoughts and actions of a determined mastermind such as SIDMFKID.The fact that the final mix and master of the entire project is performed solely by Sid proves that he will not stop and that he has no competition. I urge any modern music advocate to listen to every track on the album carefully, as they were crafted, in order to discover the connection that all listeners desire.
