Reminisce The Artist Drops 3rd Release of 2019, ’4Swang: The Album’
I’m usually surprised this day in age when artists are consistent. After you discover that one favorite project it seems like their work as a whole lessens in quality as most chase the “hit” sound which has sent my beloved Hip Hop and R&B into a sad craze these past years. California’s own Reminisce The Artist has proved to me it doesn’t have to be that way. On his third release of 2019, ’4Swang: The Album,'RTA shows us he is here for us Old School lovers yet again and he is not about to let up.
Rem dropped off his distinct and smooth vocals this time around over some grooves that sit on top of the hottest of basslines in what I think is his catchiest work. I think every artist needs that. I don’t mean catchy in a corny sense [I’m not saying these are kid bops either] but the people need a collection of records to smack them in the face every once in a while, for the sake of the replay button. RTA’s melodies and the hooks just seem to stick in your head like decorations to glue on this album. These are the works that may not necessarily catch fire right away but somewhere along the line they either wake everyone up or the listeners are forced to go back and appreciate every single scrap.
My favorites couldn’t be more opposite from each other, the bouncy "4Swang" and the slow straight out of the 80’s movie soundtrack, "Say When." Where were these songs when movies were actually good? SMH. As contrast as they are, both capture him at his peak. The fly versus the love-yearning. Yo Rem, that break on "Say When" makes me want to cry by the way. That joint cuts deep.
