Multi-Genre, GRAMMY Award Winning Duo Play-N-Skillz on Conquering the World

Today we catch up with 2x Grammy-winning duo, Play-N-Skillz. If the name sounds familiar it's because you're bound to have heard at least one of their hits, like Lil Wayne's "Got Money" or Chamillionaire's "Ridin'," which have both earned the Argentinian/Venezuelan brothers GRAMMY awards.

Throughout their careers, they've gradually expanded their sound to different genres like EDM, Latin, Pop, K-Pop and more. Having worked with numerous heavyweight artists like Steve Aoki, Daddy Yankee, Pitbull, De la Ghetto, Desiigner and more, Play-N-Skillz's resume is nothing short of amazing.

Recent successes include:

  • In 2018 the duo released 6 tracks in 6 different genres for artists like Desiigner, Super Junior and more.
  • RIAA Gold and Platinum certified singles“Cuidao”, “Azukita” and “Llegaste Tu."
  • Their song, "Lo Siento" which they produced and are featured artists on, made history becoming the first K-Pop song to chart on the Billboard Latin charts.

And that's not to mention, their recently released track single for Daddy Yankee called “Con Calma” featuring Snow, (remember him?) is another streaming success with nearly 650 Million YouTube and 300 Million Spotify plays. So, get to know Play-N-Skillz below in this Hype Off Life exclusive and be sure to catch "Con Calma" at the end.

What was the Hip Hop scene like in Argentinian/Venezuelan while growing up?

We weren’t born there we were born in Dallas, TX.

When did you guys know music is your gift?

When we bought our first piece of equipment a DR-202 which had no keys just pads and Skillz was able to play melody and chords that sounded like it was on a big keyboard.

How do you incorporate your Latin background into your production?

By the rhythm and percussion in our tracks and all our tracks always make you want to dance which Latin music has always been known for.

What sparked the thought of delving into different genres?

It was the challenge of conquering the world and not just our neighborhood or region anymore. Also, we grew up influenced by all music being that we are open format DJs which play it all we want to make that in the music we have out.

Out of all of the tracks you’ve produced, which ones are you proud of the most?

Probably The latest song “Con Calma” with Daddy Yankee because it’s 15 years into our career and we made another number one song in a genre that we didn’t start in.

Who or what keeps you motivated and inspired?

Family and never forgetting where we came from.

Any advice for upcoming producers and DJs wanting to leave a mark in music, like you all have?

Be Original and do it for the passion cause the money will come.

As OGs in the game, where do you guys want to take your career next?

Executive Level and becoming owners and having equity of our catalog and artists we develop.
