Nigerian Rap/Afrobeats Icon OLAMIDÉ Drops "Carpe Diem" Album

Nigerian rap/afrobeats icon OLAMIDÉ today shares "Carpe Diem", his first album through a new partnership between his YBNL Nation imprint and indie powerhouse EMPIRE. The 12-track LP highlights OLAMIDÉ's wide tastes as well as his vast influence on Nigerian music, with appearances from proteges, disciples and friends Fireboy DML, Omah Lay, Peruzzi, Phyno, Bella Shumrda and Bad Boy Timz. 18-year-old prodigy P.Priime shines as the lead producer on "Carpe Diem", with additional tracks coming from an all-Nigerian squad of Pheelz, VStix, ID Cabasa and Young Jonn.

The project is a reflection of my mind, and also the current sound brewing underground in Nigeria,” OLAMIDÉ says. “It’s a combination of a lot of traditional elements and also a sound from Nigeria called galala, which has a little bit of reggae/dancehall. It’s also a fusion of something we call Celestial, which is when you are playing secular music in church. It’s like taking pop to the church.”

Known for multilingual tracks which showcase his ability to rap and sing in English, Yoruba and Pidgin, OLAMIDÉ broadens his musical horizons on "Carpe Diem", exploring his range as a vocalist. While “Do Better” is classic street rap from the artist fans call Baddo, “Green Light” and“Chimichanga” are radio-ready Afropop bops that reveal a sunny new side to Nigeria’s certified voice of the street. “Music has always been my saviour, so I thought for once I should share with the world what happiness sounds like to me,” OLAMIDÉ says. Stream "Carpe Diem" below, as well as "Green Light" and "Eru" for extra vibes.
