7 Questions with Lourdes Jackson

Tell the good people where you’re from! What you do and why.  My name is Lourdes Jackson, I'm originally from Portland, OR,  however, at 15 I moved Tacoma, WA.  I’ve been here for 16 years. I am a pencil/charcoal artist, painter, and designer.  A creator.  I create because my ideas haunt me, and if I were a ghost, I would haunt you.  I couldn't explain it any better cause something seems to be haunting me.If you could paint somewhere/someone legendary, where/who would it be? If I could paint someone/somewhere legendary it would be a piece of my daughter in an architectural landscape empty of color where everyone can witness and be motivated. The reason for this is because I feel as a father it is my sole job to instill a sense of legacy within her soul. I am a creator.  This world was and still is shaped by creators.  We run the world!I feel my ideas reflect my experiences and mental bandwidth to transform the landscape before me.I want to stand next to some of the (considered) greatest artworks in the world.  As a black man, I want to show that not only are the youth of today our future creators but also to give essence to “Black Excellence” on a platform that shows that a man of my stature can create amazing works.  Honestly, I love stark white canvases because they give me the ability to transform a plain canvas into an eye-catching work of art.  So any place where it is plain I want to breath fresh life into.Did you ever imagine your art taking you as far as it has now?  Yes, I knew from the day I quit my job (3 years ago) that I could make it this far and even further.  I've never put a ceiling on anything I've ever done. I have a very positive outlook on my future and where it will take me.  I'm pushing to go further, remain a student first, a teacher when needed and create new experiences to create a lane for future creators… My daughter especially!Finish the sentence…,’ In 5 years, I see myself…”In 5 years I see myself…” Owning my own art, furniture, and clothing design gallery… “Bristelle Galerie”.  A place for creators to freely create concepts that reside in homes and cities across the world.
Who is your favorite painter or artist? At this time I don't have a favorite artist. I love so many artists that I cant choose.  It wasn't until 3 years ago that I even knew that creating (in the way I'm seeing today) was even possible!  So I feel my search and education will continue.  However, I like seeing works in charcoal and pencil.Have you ever created something that you didn’t like?  Yes, I have created many works I do not like. My studio is full of them. But for some reason my most personally least liked works are the ones that people like the most. It is teaching me something about the type of artist I am.How can the people keep up with you?  People can keep up with me on my website: www.bristellegalerie.com andmy Instagram @Lourdesenfleur. I also will be putting on a series of art shows featuring new works this year, showcasing different ways I'm learning to create.
