10 Hip Hop Albums From 1996 We’re Still Listening To Today

1996 was no doubt a legendary era. For Hip Hop, on all levels and facets. From the music to the fashion and slang, mid-90s were top tier. Which is probably why those of us who were of age around the time look back with nostalgia of a time in the world when things weren’t perfect, but a whole lot more fun and affordable. For example, you could flex extra hard in your Tommy Hilfiger sailing jacket, Eddie Bauers, or be Polo’d down without stressing your pockets too hard. But that’s a story for another day.

Back to what I was saying about 1996 Hip Hop though, a time was to be had! We got blessed with a ton of classic music that has stood the test of time. So much so, that we’re still listening to most of it like it’s not 30 years later. I don’t even blame the “old heads” that only listen to what’s now considered old school Hip Hop. Not just because I can technically be considered one myself. But because the substance was there.

Not only are the following 10 albums sonically and lyrically on point, they’ve stood the test of time in realness. This list is in no particular order or regard to preference. If you don’t see something, refer back to the title of this article. It’s not a ranking, as we don’t believe in those. Like art, music is subjective. Who are we to say what’s better than others. Tomato. Tomáto.

Yeah, some music is horrible. But, we’re not talking about that today or any day. Just be assured that these 10 albums aren’t that and have something to say.
