Viral hit, “Buss It” proved to the world what Texas already knew: Erica Banks has got next. Falling in love with poetry as a child, the Dallas native has been perfecting her style over the years, dropping off mixtape after mixtape, after project, after viral success. 

Armed with a gift of combining relentless flows with big bass and eerie melodies, Banks has snowballed success’ momentum into a notable career, filled with many co-signs and accolades . Where most artists would stop and be content with their single hitting Billboard’s Top 100, Banks continues to stay relentless.

Today she drops off her highly anticipated mixtape, “Diary of The Flow Queen”. Ahead of it's release and in the midst of her touring, we got a chance to chop it up with Erica Banks for a quick round of questions - like the interconnectedness of Hip Hop and poetry, and the effects of fame on her life.

First things first, congrats on all your success. From being on Billboards to watch list, to touching on half a billion streams you did your thing! At what point in your career did you know you were about to blow up?

I knew I was about to blow up when "Buss It" went viral on Tik Tok

In what ways is life different now that you have so many eyes on you?

At this point in my life, I have to be very selective about things I say or put out because the world now sees everything I indulge in

Rewind to 10 years ago. What MCs did you keep in rotation?

Lil Wayne, Missy Elliot and Drake

Which ones top that list now?

Drake would be at the top of my list

Take us back to the time when you knew you wanted to be an MC.

I knew I wanted to rap at age 12. I always wrote poetry and loved writing in school. Watching music videos inspired me

Your love of poetry also goes back to your childhood. In what ways do you feel Hip Hop and poetry parallel each other?

Poetry is music, so Hip Hop is poetry. It’s just put on a beat with instruments

What aspect of poetry do you love the most?

The aspect of poetry that I love the most is rhyme schemes

So, you have a new EP coming out around the corner. What type of vibes can we expect?

Everyone can expect party vibes from my project coming out. I’m a fun girl and I like to turn up so that’s what it’s giving

Got any features on it we’ll be excited about?

[It] definitely has features my fans will love

Fast forward 3 years from now to 2025. Where do you see yourself?

In 2025, I see myself rich, many more plaques and with 3 homes in 3 different states.
