Black Power Throwback: We Look Back At Public Enemy's "Fight The Power"!

Today marks the first day of Black History Month worldwide, and we continue to fight the good fight. While we look back at persons like Martin Luther King, Marcus Garvey, and Malcolm X who contributed to fighting for the rights of Black People, we also look back at the music that helped to spread the messages. To kick off the month, we look back at Public Enemy's "Fight The Power". Produced by The Bomb Squad, this was released in 1989 through Motown Records, and was first featured on the soundtrack to the Spike Lee "Joint", "Do The Right Thing". It features numerous samples from the likes of James Brown's "Hot Pants" and "Funky Drummer", The Dramatics' "Watcha See Is Watcha Get", and many others.

A song with revolutionary lyrics delivered by Chuck D (with ad-libs by Flavor Flav) including shots at certain white big names, "Fight The Power" was ranked #288 in the "Songs of the Century" list put together by the Recording Industry Association of America and the National Endowment for the Arts in 2001. It has also been regarded as one of the greatest songs by many publications over the years, and still one of Public Enemy's most recognized songs. Remember your history, check out the track!
