7 Questions with Andre Writer (Interview)
It’s Andre Writer, I can simply assume what inspired your name but tell us the real reason and how you adopted that name.
Yes yes... So When I was signed to 7 Aurelius I was going by “JonDoe”.... shortly after that deal I got divorced and I got out of my deal with 7. I decided to change my name to Andre Writer. Personally, I feel it’s better for marketing and google searches. Plus my real is Andre and I’m a songwriter so it just made sense lol.
When did you first fall in love with music?
So I fell in love with music at a really young age, I wanna say like 3 or 5.. I grew up in an entertainment/creative household. My mother (Dwan Smith) is an actress, she starred in the original “Sparkle” she played Deloris, the middle-aged sister. My dad was a songwriter and producer. His biggest record “Red Hot” by Freda Payne... he also is the one who put Chris Stokes in the game.
Who are some of your favorite writers in music?
My favorite writers currently are Eric Bellinger, Brittany Barber, Pharrell, Missy, Hitmaka, Jeremih, Tish Hyman, TY$, The Dream, Ab Liva, and Amnija to name a few.
Tell us about your recent opportunity with Grown & Sexy nights
“Grown n Sexy Night” is a mini concert series put on by MSMLA Media and TrunkBass ENT. It’s such a dope platform. The show is May 16 at Busby's East on Wilshire..(link in my IG bio for tickets) It’s dope because they put the artist first and through their relationships, they have built an awesome platform giving the artist maximum expose. The two ladies that run it are Super Dope!! Shout out to Sade and Janae!!!!! I love seeing and working with women who are driven. There’s a lot of ladies in the game who are crushing it. I feel like women don’t get enough credit in this industry, I’m all about it!!! 
If you could spend 48 hours in the studio with an artist, who would it be?
I’d have to say Kevin Gates and Hitmaka... Both of there energy is crazy and they are both hella creative. Gates is one of the realest dudes out to me. Hitmaka is putting out hit after hit after hit!!!!
How was 2018 been treating you in music?
2018 has been a great year so far. I’ve had the opportunity to write for Joi Marshall from Jade, Jaq Moon, Ben Official, and have had the opportunity to learn and build great relationships.
What can we expect from you in the next year? What do you want to accomplish?
Well, this summer I have an EP dropping. My current single “NMW” is available on all streaming platforms. My next single “Slide” will be available soon as well as the video. I’m shooting the video at end of this month to pull up on me!!! Other than that just putting my pen on as many projects as I can. So if you need a record get at me and the squad!!!
