The Prospectt Interview (Hype Files)

If you’re in the know about great new artists making a name for themselves, you already know about Miami rep, Prospectt. Gaining the attention of Miami Hip Hop heavy hitters like Rick Ross and DJ Khaled, it’s safe to say the budding lyricist has been making waves.

We recently got a chance to speak with Prospectt about his thoughts on the grind and the power of networking, as well as the story behind his 2-year hiatus. Read the full interview below and follow up @prospectt

For those unfamiliar with your come up, how did you get your start in the industry?

I started recording myself at my house on the computer once I felt like my records were getting better. I thought how can I really position myself to get ahead in this music game. So what I did was I started booking studio sessions at all the popping studios in Miami cause I knew I would run into industry people that I could build relationships with and play them my music and navigate my way from there.

Your sound is very bold and gritty. Where do you draw your inspiration from?

It comes organically from things I experience on the daily or conversations I’m having with people. I’m constantly on the move so I’m always pulling inspiration from different places. Plus I live in Miami. It's a fast life for real down here.

Things have really been picking up for you! How does it feel to have your collective streams well into the millions?

I'm grateful for any stream even if it's one cause that person took their time to listen to me. I feel like there’s still a lot more work to be put in but for a fact 2023 is my year of consistency. So we could really take this to the next level.

Aside from streaming wins, you also have co-signs from Rick Ross and DJ Khaled. How did you get on their radar?

Definitely, I can say DJ khaled is the big homie, the first major artist to take notice of me, bring me in and give me the game. One of our mutual friends, Andrew Carreras, put him on to my music. I remember that night I was at Circle House Studios in Miami my phone rang unknown number I picked up like who this he said it's DJ Khaled I'm really liking what you doing in the city come by studio.

As for Ross, I had a record at the time going crazy in the city called “All You Got”. I got a call from his DJ, Sam Sneak and was like yo Ross rocking with all you got heavy, he wanna do a verse for you on it pull up to the studio. I appreciate Ross doing it out of love since I'm from the same city that was a big look.

Networking is key, in all fields. In what ways has building solid relationships helped your career?

I think what’s helped is that I’m just a genuine person and people can feel that. I'm big on building as a people first. If it develops into a friendship, great, if not I’m cool with it too. The business, if there is any, can come second, and I’ve been fortunate enough to meet great people in this game who are willing to help me and point me in the right direction.

What did you discover about yourself while on your 2-year hiatus?

By keeping GOD first in my life it led me to be more disciplined in every aspect down to my daily routine. I’m way more patient, trusting the process and understanding what’s meant for me will come in due time. My friends call me the humble giant now cause I'm mad calm with it and put everyone before me in a sense. My focus is really on another level now

Stopping to regain clarity is never a bad thing. When did you know it was time to take a break?

Honestly I just wasn’t locked in as usually would be, plus dealing with the business side of the game you gotta learn how to balance it all, it felt overwhelming. Then I still had real life personal things going on. Sometimes when everything is happening all at once you don’t know how to properly approach it.

Now that you’re back at it, how do you want the rest of your career to go?

The Music game these days seems to constantly be changing so I’m just doing what feels right. The goal is obviously to catch hit records but that’s for the people to decide. I'm just gonna do my part and keep working because it's really deeper than rap for me.
