Sev7en Taylor Unleashes Rap Alter Ego on “The Disobedience Of Jimmie Taylor" (Interview)

COVID-19 has affected many artists and hustlers alike, making us all adjust to our new reality. Some, like Sev7en Taylor have been more creative than others. Today he stops by for an exclusive interview centered around his latest and greatest project to date, “The Disobedience Of Jimmie Taylor". The 12-track horror-themed project shows a different side of Taylor, as he comes for everybody with witty flows and hella bravado. Tune in below where he gets into his favorite horror films, catching the attention of Dave East, and his rap alter ego, Jimmie. Right now and only on Hype Off Life 👊🏾

“The Disobedience Of Jimmie Taylor” has a noticeably darker sound than your previous work. What’s the inspiration behind the new sound?

Since my first mixtape " Jimmie" has always been there. I purposely ended my debut album with  Seven (Mother Mary) which is the opening track for my new project. I consider this my " Bridge" project. The inspiration comes from wanting to create a body of work; that's not like anything you've heard before. My pen game/flows are beyond crazy on this project and this is truly my BEST BODY OF WORK.

Who is Jimmie and who is he coming for?

Everybody. He's not a friend of anyone's. He sees people for what they are and he becomes very bashful on this project; I honestly love it.  Jimmie is my rap alter ego. He's a warlock. His mother was one of the baddest witches and she lost her powers to him; anyone that comes for me he takes care of it.

What are some of your favorite horror films?

90's- early 2000's horror was just an era! especially the Black films at the time. I miss that. I miss films that truly impacted you and went on to be iconic. To name a few " Jeeper's Creepers", " Scream", " I Know What You Did Last Summer",  " Candyman ", and so many more.

Which one scared you the most?

" Candyman" or " Jeeper's Creepers"; very iconic movies.

How have you been honing your craft since we last spoke?

I've been pushing my pen; learning the business of this industry. I've gotten the attention of Dave East and a few others. So, I'm continuing to push my work and gearing up to shoot videos.

You’ve also been collabing with hella dope artists. How do you go about getting features?

Precious and I were always fan's of each other's talents; she told me to send a track with an open verse and I did that. Working with her on " NASTY" was very dope and something for the clubs. It was pure culture. Queen Kai'ary and I are 10 years+ friends and she's super talented. We released this track before but it wasn't the right time; now I feel it's the right timing and you get the track in a fully packaged project. The listening experience for this new project is very different and introduces you to the previous releases singles in a new way.

Coronavirus threw a wrench in everyone’s #2020Vision. Where do you see yourself headed in the second half of the year?

More success. Bigger moves and visiting a few states for a much needed vacay. Just on this amazing journey with myself and I feel centered with self/art in the most highest ways. That's what's important to me. Thank you for this interview! S E V 7 EN OUT.
