"Can't impeach us when the streets love us."

If John Singleton made a “Boyz n the Hood” for the 2010’s, Dough The FreshKid’s new album would be the soundtrack. Last weekend at a private, LA-adjacent location Hype Off Life got the chance to get first listen at one of the best coming out of South Central this year, 'Black Rome.'Aspirational in tone and 15 tracks in length, ‘Black Rome’ paints a picture of life in South LA through soulful samples, deep bass lines and vivid storytelling akin to taking a night ride with an OG, as Dough The FreshKid recounts stories of the past: his, those around him and Black History as a whole. The album promotes Black Empowerment, encouraging Black Kings and Queens to acknowledge their power by knowing their history. His homie’s like Wink Loc, Queenie Catora, Poppa Da Don and Myghty ride shotgun, as they trade stories with DTFK, while scratches by DJ Imperial MAC round out the experience. With the goal of leaving a message for his people, Dough The FreshKid’s ’Black Rome’ is destined to go down in the digital scribes a classic.
