Crunk-n-Buck “Underground Kingz” Review

He’s Mississippi ‘til he’s no longer living, he has been bringing the energy for a number of years, putting on for the south, and he goes by the name of CruNk-N-buCk. Since 2003, Crunk has been putting on for the city of Senatobia, delivering a sound that was internationally known, and locally accepted. The time has now come where his focus will change, and gives the people something to celebrate with the album, “Underground Kingz”.

“Underground Kingz” marks CruNk-N-buCk’s final album, as he looks to adapt to new roles and opportunities, but not before giving the fans some of his best work. Featuring 20 tracks, this body of work will be heralded.

The album starts off with some words from the late Pimp C (who makes appearances throughout the album) on the bass-heavy “Hate To Love” featuring Playa Fly, and Crunk speaks his mind about the type of people who make it their life’s work to hate on someone doing good.

It’s still business as usual on the follow-up “Money Calling”, with Crunk’s being adamant about getting his money regardless of what’s going on. With that in mind, he decides to turn up on “Going Up”, and if you need to practice the fancy footwork, “Gangsta Walkin” follows up to keep you moving.

One thing with CruNk-N-buCk, is he’s not afraid to represent where he’s from, and does just that on “Summerslam” featuring Guice, “Feel So Good” featuring Terror, “To Live And Die In Da Sipp” featuring Guice and Jermaine Hussein, and on “Afrocentric” featuring Hav, Mark Da’Spot, and Mike Lawrybaby.

With an album packed with great beats and features, Crunk shared his space with southern rap legend Project Pat on the gritty “3 AM”, and 8Ball & MJG on the laid-back “Sun Roof Back”. The album isn’t without its odes to those moments of pleasure with your favorite vices, and “Smoke Something”, “Purple”, “Gumbo”, and “Weed Jar” are just some of the tracks that provide the right soundtrack. Through a ride, he closes out the album on a good note with “Goodbye”, as he makes his exit out of the game.

CruNk-N-buCk has something for everyone on “Underground Kingz”, and with a star-studded lineup, top-notch beat selection, and that Southern vibe, listeners will keep this album close, and celebrate a man who has contributed many years to making the South a hotbed for amazing talent and sounds.
